Registered Psychologist – Contract | Abbotsford, BC | Hybrid
Positive Change Health & Psychological Services is a growing private practice with locations in Mission and Abbotsford, BC. We provide in-person and telehealth psychological services, including evidence-based psychological treatment and psychodiagnostic assessments, with a specialization in first responder populations. We are currently seeking a Registered Psychologist to join our Abbotsford location on a contract basis.
The Role
This is an independent contractor position. We are looking for a psychologist who is able to commit to being available a minimum of 8 hours per week, with at least a half day per week (4 hours) of in-person availability. Although there are no minimum guaranteed hours, we are currently operating at capacity across all psychologists, with an active client waitlist. Our new contractor would realistically begin with immediate access to referrals.
This is a highly autonomous role that offers flexibility to suit your lifestyle. Our contractors work independently and set their own hours, take vacation without a formal approval process, and complete report writing from home. Our director is approachable and eager to assist, providing consultation and case discussion whenever requested. You will also have full support from the office manager, who handles administrative tasks such as booking new referrals, client relations, and invoicing/payments.
At Positive Change Health & Psychological Services you focus entirely on clinical work, and we handle everything else: admin, booking, billing, referral management, and the considerable behind-the-scenes work that solo practice demands.
Location
Ideally, you are able to work in-person at our Abbotsford office, combined with telehealth from home. We understand that Lower Mainland geography is fluid and commute patterns vary. Candidates located elsewhere in BC who are therapy-focused and prefer a fully remote arrangement may also be considered.
All contractors must be physically located in BC.
Responsibilities
● Conduct psychological assessments (e.g., psychodiagnostic, workplace injury, learning disorders, ADHD, substance use, and others, within your scope of competence)
● Provide individual therapy for clinical and/or forensic clients, including first responder populations
● Develop and implement treatment plans and write initial, progress, and discharge reports as needed
● Maintain accurate clinical documentation
Our Ideal Candidate
● Doctoral degree in Clinical, Forensic, or Counselling Psychology
● Registered to practice as a Psychologist with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC (CHCPBC)
● Doctoral Graduate with a submitted application to the CHCPBC (or plans to submit an application within the next 6 months)
● Self-directed and comfortable working independently
● Experienced in both assessment and treatment
● Training and experience in providing trauma therapy, particularly with first responders
● Experience with child and adolescent populations (a current gap we are actively looking to fill)
● Available for a minimum of 8 hours per week, with preference for 15+ hours
Recent Graduates
We are open to candidates who have completed their doctoral degree and are pursuing registration with the CHCPBC. Our director, Dr. Katrina Hodgson, has several years of supervision experience, both as a clinical practicum supervisor with SFU, UBC, and Adler University as well as experience supervising soon-to-be psychologists throughout the registration process. Supervision is available for the right candidate; ideally someone who is looking for a long-term professional home, and who plans to remain with the practice for a minimum of one year post-registration.
Compensation
$159.25–$195.00 per hour (contractor). Rate varies based on referral source and service type (e.g., clinical vs. forensic and therapy vs. assessment).
What We Offer
● Immediate referral access with minimal ramp-up period
● Admin, scheduling, and invoicing support
● Flexibility to set your own hours and manage your own caseload
● Telehealth capability for remote work
● On-site parking
● Direct consultation access with an experienced clinical and forensic psychologist
● A practice infrastructure that lets you focus on what you are trained to do
