Our psychological health is a critical component of our overall functioning, well-being, and longevity, yet it often takes a backseat to other concerns and life commitments. I strive to use my training and experience to empathically assist clients in prioritizing their psychological health whether they are struggling with a single acute issue or longstanding complex problems.
I earned my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Simon Fraser University in 2023 during which I received comprehensive training based on the scientist-practitioner model and conducted independent research in the area of anxiety, body image, and intimate relationships. I completed my residency training in the University of Manitoba’s Clinical Health Psychology program (Max Rady College of Medicine) with a focus on inpatient and outpatient assessment, and evidence-based treatments for anxiety, depression, trauma-related disorders, eating disorders, and sleep disorders (e.g., insomnia, nightmare disorder).
I have extensive experience in psychodiagnostic, psychoeducational, and cognitive assessment, including assessment for major depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, eating disorders, psychotic disorders, personality disorders, ADHD, learning disorders, and intellectual development disorder. With regard to treatment, I practice from a primarily Cognitive-Behavioural (CBT) orientation, but recognize the importance of tailoring treatment approaches to the needs of clients and thus flexibly apply and integrate other approaches as needed (e.g., Dialectical Behaviour Therapy [DBT], Acceptance and Commitment Therapy [ACT], and mindfulness-based interventions). I conduct short- and long-term treatment for a range of psychological concerns for adults and older adolescents and have significant experience with co-occurring disorders, including personality disorders. I recognize and emphasize the interactive effects of our social, cultural, occupational, and other roles and functioning on our psychological well-being and aim to collaboratively integrate these factors into treatment.
Dr. Bowsfield is available to see clients aged 16 years or older in-person or via telehealth for assessment and treatment services. Psych.
